What is AIME?

The Motion Control Specialist

If your work involves the designing or applying of motion control products or systems, you are a motion control specialist. You, your work, your peers, and the motion industry will all benefit when you join the Association of International Motion Engineers (AiME).

By becoming a member of AiME you will be contributing directly to your professional growth. You will also be assisting in the accomplishment of our Mission of representing and supporting the needs of users and suppliers of motion control products and systems.

Join the growing numbers of your peers in the motion industry by becoming part of the one organization that is solely committed to increasing the recognition and productivity of motion control specialists everywhere.

Certified Motion Control Specialist

"One who understands and can integrate the many disciplines required to solve motion control application problems."

AiME's Mission:

The Association of International Motion Engineers represents and supports the needs to USERS of motion control solutions. AiME will strive to be "user driven" by helping the users of motion products and systems find appropriate solutions, and, by so doing, enhance their prosperity and that of the motion control industry.

AiME's Task

Based upon continuous input from motion control users, AiME's task is to:

  • Provide educational and support systems
  • Facilitate selection of motion solutions
  • Identify and encourage an Industry Focus on strategic technology development
  • Promote advanced technology solutions

Further, AiME is working to foster an environment which promotes an improved understanding by potential users of the value that motion control solutions can bring to them and their companies, and to increase the awareness of the value delivered by qualified motion control specialists.

We "AiME" to meet these objectives through educational programs targeted both at the user and supplier of motion control solutions. AiME is promoting and administering a rigorous certification program for Motion Control Specialists.

Our most significant efforts to date have been to develop the tutorials, workshops, and technical sessions that are offered at the different motion control conferences & expositions held at key locations around the United States. The education acquired by attending these conferences and workshops not only help prepare attendees for the Fundamentals Exam that are a part of the process to become a Certified Motion Control Specialist, but they convey practical information and tools to help you do your job better.

The Emerging Motion Control Specialist

There are few other fields that require the integration of as many engineering disciplines as does motion control. What other specialty requires the practitioner to understand and use, simultaneously, machine design, dynamics, digital and power electronics, control, computers & programming, interfacing, physics, instrumentation, etc.

While not yet recognized by academicians as a separate discipline or specialty, one day there will be universities offering degree programs in Motion Control Engineering. While no one yet carries the title of Motion Control Engineer, there are already thousands of graduate engineers who have, by cross-disciplinary self-study and experience, acquired the skills to be recognized as a Certified Motion Control Specialist. If you are one, join us at AiME and work to become certified so that we may thereby help raise your level of recognition.
