Certified Motion Control Specialist (CMCS)

To become certified an applicant must complete the following three phase process.

Phase I: Motion Control Fundamentals
A)
Take the motion control fundamentals courses

B) Pass the motion control fundamentals examination. It is a 50 question exam based on material taught in the seven motion control fundamentals courses.  This exam is offered during AiME sponsored conference programs.  Cost of the Phase I exam is $250 (USD) and is waived with a full track purchase.

 

Phase II: Credential Review
A)
You must meet the following education/work experience requirements:

  • at least 2 years of post high school education
  • at least 2 years of motion control experience
  • at least 8 years of combined education and experience

B) In addition to the education/work experience background, the applicant must submit the following for review:

  • A copy of the official transcript from the college or university where you received your highest degree
  • A personal assessment of your work record written by yourself
  • Any other indicators of technical competence
  • A letter from an individual verifying your experience claims

C) Cost for Phase II is $25 (USD)

Keep in mind that your credentials will be verified and reviewed by a committee and the final decision lies with them.

 

Phase III: Design Track
A)
Take the design track courses.

B) Pass the design track examination.  It is an experience oriented examination and the exam covers analysis and design of a real motion control system.  This exam is offered during AiME sponsored conference programs.  Cost for the Phase III exam is $250 (USD) and is waived with a full track purchase.

Upon successful completion of these three phases, a designation of CMCS (Certified Motion Control Specialist) will be presented in the format of an official certificate.  This credential remains in effect for three years after which time it is subject to recertification.  Records of your achievement will be maintained by AiME and will be verified upon request.  Recertification requires the credential holder to take 24 hours of appropriate technical instruction over a three year period.

Phrase IV (Optional): Focus Area
A) If you would like to gain an endorsement on your certification, you can select one of the two (or both) motion control focus areas below and take the corresponding courses.

B) Pass your specific focus area's examination.  It is a 50 question exam based on material taught in your focus area courses.  This exam is offered during AiME sponsored conference programs.  Cost for the Phase IV exam is $250 (USD) and is waived with a full track purchase.

C) Upon successful completion, you will receive a new certificate highlighting the endorsement.
